This is one big burly beautiful provincial coin.......Tater Roman Provincial coins are coins that were minted in the provinces of the Roman Empire by civic authorities rather than by Imperial authorities. These coins were a continuation of the original currency system that existed prior to the arrival of the Romans. The coins issued by a city were mostly used by the inhabitents of that city in local transactions. When a new region was conquered by Rome, the Imperial authority would often allow the continuation of the original currency as a matter of practicality. Often, when a new Colony was formed it would be given power to mint bronze coins.
