A Collectible Certificate from
NEW ENGLAND
TELEPHONE
TELEGRAPH
The first company set up to develop the new-fangled telephone in 1878 bore this name but is NOT a direct antecedent of the present company. Apparently it was a little too early out of the starting gate because it folded within a year.
But by 1885 American Tel Tel (ATT) was up and running - not just a phone system but pretty much a Monopoly which lasted 100 Years until the Break-Up of "Ma Bell" in 1984.
That Monopoly had subsidiaries all over the place - Pacific Tel Tel, Southern Bell, Northwest Pacific Bell and on and on. Even the name New England Tel Tel was revived.
Certificates for these companies fall into Two Main Groups: A Long Bond like PTT and Southern Bell and a Stock Certificate like the later one for NETT. All of these Collectibles are available at

Yet this one is truly unique - not just very unique which is an absurdity because either the thing is or is not unique: one of a kind. There is no other I know of like this one. It's the early version that features marvelous engravings of the Six State Seals in New England.
They are from Left to Right: Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. This Certificate really is One of a Kind!!!
